MOHANA VALLI.

It seems that most people are told that they will find their true calling at some point in time, but I don’t seem to have found one. Rather, I have found several meaningful callings.

 

When I was 7, I wanted to become a Disney Cartoonist.
At 12, a Bharatanatyam dancer.
At 15, an Architect.
At 19, a Writer as I was and still am an avid reader.
But at 21, I graduated with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and subsequently realized that I did not want to pursue it as a career.

 

Having multiple interests, all of which are rooted in creativity, I realized I will not be satisfied unless I can incorporate all of them under one roof. So, I chose marketing as a career - creativity, art, storytelling, research, psychology, and still, fun. To gain a holistic view of marketing, I pursued my master’s in business specializing in marketing, and I added innovation and entrepreneurship to the list as both go together. And today, I am an enthusiastic marketer, storyteller, dancer, and artist.

Some traits that distinguish the way I work are:

• Contextual thinking – Every task that I have taken up in my career or academics, I have always approached the problems from multiple perspectives. This enhances empathy and critical understanding of the problem, eventually leading to a well thought out decision.

• Rapid learning – Being passionate about learning may not lead to fast learning but it sure does lead to the best retention and ability to work meaningfully with acquired knowledge. I do not hesitate to go the extra mile in procuring knowledge, tools, and information that enrich the quality of my work.

• Idea Synthesis – New ideas do not come from textbooks but from the intersection of multiple ideologies and experiences. I actively incorporate project management, storytelling, and art into any task that I am given, and intuitively craft out-of-the-box solutions.
